Seeing Nature Close-Up !
Nestled amongst the dense landscape of forests and fresh waters, Conover and the rest of the Northwoods is a paradise for birds and a popular hobby of bird-watching. This habitat is further enhanced by hundreds of acres of County, State and Federal owned lands that lend perfectly to the desire of both our feathered friends and those that watch them. While birds have lived in the area much longer than other inhabitants, over 400 bird species call Wisconsin home according to the Wisconsin Society of Ornithology.
You don’t have to be a bird-watcher to wake up on a mild summer morning with a light breeze unfurling your curtain bringing into your bedroom, the fragrances of the forest along with the melody of its many inhabitants. The red-wing blackbird is perhaps one of the most remembered from my childhood while fishing the bogs for jumbo perch. While many bird enthusiasts enjoy the solitude of venturing deep into the forest to find many varieties of their feathered friends, many others just love the American Bald Eagle, the Cardinal or the Loon.
